Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 6, 2026. This policy describes what data the GreenByte browser extension collects, how we use it, how it is stored, and your rights.
Data we collect
We collect: domain names of visited websites, time spent on each site, estimated data transfer sizes, and content category (video, audio, text). If you sign in with Google, we receive your email address and display name. We do not collect page content, form inputs, passwords, or full URLs with query parameters.
How we use your data
All data is used exclusively to calculate your digital carbon footprint (CO₂ estimates), display personalized tips, and generate usage statistics shown in the extension popup. Google sign-in is used solely for authentication so you can sync data across devices.
Data storage
Browsing statistics are stored locally on your device using Chrome's storage API. If you sign in, your email and aggregated stats may be sent to our server (hosted on Supabase) over HTTPS. We do not store raw browsing history on our servers.
Third-party sharing
We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal data. We use Supabase for authentication and data storage, and Google Identity Services for sign-in. These services receive only the minimum data required. No other third parties receive your data.
Data retention & deletion
Local data is stored indefinitely until you clear it via the extension's reset function or uninstall the extension. Server-side account data is retained while your account is active and deleted within 30 days of account deletion. You can request data export or deletion at any time by contacting us.
Your rights
You can: view all collected data in the extension popup; reset all local data at any time; sign out to stop server sync; request deletion of server-side data by emailing us; uninstall the extension to remove all local data permanently.

Schedule periodic data aggregation (daily/weekly stats) in the background.

Authenticate with Google so you can sign in and sync data across devices.

Estimate the size of network requests for CO₂ calculations. We read only byte sizes, not content.

Google Analytics
Used on this website (greenbyte.live) only, not in the extension. Collects anonymous page view data.
Policy updates — We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
